Etsy Prints July 30, 2009

Today I stumbled (fell on my face) upon a really great artist over at Etsy, and as we all know I love to support the Starving Artist Folks over at Etsy. One could throw a party, decorate a room, buy a gift and a wedding dress over at Etsy and be oh sooo pleased with the results. Anywho back to my grand find… I am not sure when my love of whimsical prints started, but it is in full swing and this artist does not disappoint. Volume Twenty Five has so many great prints I have still not decided which one I am gonna order (and oh yes I will be ordering two one.

Prints really are a great way to bring a little color, or special quote, or love to any room. Plus it really is a great way to support an artist!

Party ideas July 29, 2009

Not that I have babies on the brain, but I have babies on the brain. Not my babies (I already have a dog) , everyone else’s. So while looking for cute baby shower ideas I fell across this great site Utterly Engaged. After a year of planning a wedding seeing other weddings just makes one appreciate them that much more. There was one in particular that I really fell head over heels for.

My mind was racing with ideas, and of course cute things I have found on Etsy to help make a party (or shower) just as enchanting as this affair.

The flowers are simple, the cupcakes are totally do-able, and if you ask me the invites are quaint! These things are cute and easy enough for even an awkward fool like myself. A spread like this reminds me of a french garden tea I once (never) attended. Fresh squeezed (bought) lemonade, and Ukrops cupcakes are as easy as semi-homemade.

What am I waiting for? A bun in the oven (not my easy bake) in a friend of mine. Lets get things cooking girl!

Frozen Things

Before we vacationed at the beach I had made a great pot of Chili (a great recipe borrowed from All Bower Power). Since I am all about “waste not, want not” (and I am a domesticated diva) I decided to freeze the left overs for a lunch sometime. Today was that day. The night before I decided to set out one of the containers to “un-thaw” (just wait)… this morning it was totally, maybe to much “un-thawed” and I thought maybe I should of let it go through this process in the fridge. Well, I was proud of myself anyways and couldn’t wait till lunch all day knowing that while I ate I was saving money. At lunch it was really tasty, just like the day I made it. Before my bowl was even gone my belly was feeling it. Things were moving and grooving all over my gut (I know, whats new right?) and I was bummed my office was full of people with adequate noses. Still proud of myself I gladly announced to my mother-in-law that I had “un-thawed” chili from 2 weeks ago for lunch. She let me down nicely, it wasn’t “un-thawed”, it was just thawed. Really, I learned something new today. I also learned, it is probably best to just eat chili the day you made it, otherwise you could be asked to leave the office. I am still proud of myself though!

Cool Website Find July 28, 2009

Have you ever had a website crush simply for the colors, cool design oh… and great merchandise? I  recently fell upon a website crush myself, and were not talking Etsy. It’s called The Vintage Pearl, and I am not talking a new ship for Johnny Depp (I mean Captain Jack Sparrow) to navigate either! If you know any soon to be mom’s or just plain ol’ mom’s who do a great job this is the site to click on.

The cute design, and cool colors of the website grabbed me (by the hair) at first, but then the quirky jewelry, and the oh so love-able pearl charm punched me (in the face)! I know many great moms (one in particular, who would definitely sport my name around her neck!) who could rock this trendy looking necklaces and bracelets. Not only that, a cute necklace with your last name initial, or you and your hubby’s initials would be cool in my book too.

Click on over to The Vintage Pearl, and then fill a shopping basket with loads of goodies.

The Bike Man July 27, 2009

Most of you know the Bike Man (he lives on Liberty View Lane)! Chances are you know him so well that you have even experienced his potty humor, lack of mouth filter and all out attitude about bald jokes. That’s right the Bike Man (aka Justin my husband) is truly a great guy. We are closing in on our 1 year anniversary (September 20, 2008), and I was just thinking that this time last year I was planning a wedding. I really have not spent much time writing, let alone thinking of that day until this past week. I realized on my own blog I really have not truly introduced the special man that I married. The Bike Man is known around town for his bike riding ability. He is a “pro” mountain biker, a title that he has spent very long to gain. Together we have traveled all over this great country to help him reach his goal of “pro”. He talent and goal driven personality are very attractive, he never lets the impossible go unreached. While many pro athletes have spent their childhood training specifically for their sport, The Bike man only started 8 years ago. Some may know that The Bike Man struggled as a child with a learning disorder caused by epilepsy. The Bike Man spent years being pricked, prodded and probed in a hospital to try and find where his seizures were located in his brain. When The Bike Man reached his (awkward) teenage years his seizures had stopped, and the doctors thought they had finally found the right medicine to control them. I met The Bike Man in Jan of ’06, while vacationing in the Outer Banks in July of ’06 he suffered a grand maul seizure, the first I had seen. After that he continued to suffer from them regularly. The seizures mainly came in his sleep, (only once while driving on I-64, but he told before hand and pulled over) and seemed to be alot worse than the ones of his childhood. In the Spring of ’08 The Bike Man and I drove 3,000 miles across country for 2 weekends of national level races. While we were in Arizona just a few hours before he was to be at the starting line The Bike Man suffered a seizure. All I knew was that he had to be there when the race went off. The Bike Man finished 6th out 50 guys that evening and continued to get 1st overall for the entire weekend of all 3 races. Because of his greatness in Arizona he was able to upgrade to the “pro” level. With all of The Bike Man’s will power and ability to over come obstacles I feel like he makes me a better person, nothing seems impossible. As of last December The Bike Man has been on medication that can control these seizures, there came a point that I had to give him mouth to mouth since he would stop breathing. Some have asked me if it scares me, or how do I react so calm to the seizures, but all I can say is that I am not in control of them God is, and I cant make him change his mind. I pray that one day he will out grow them (he has out grown his hair). The Bike man and I don’t let the seizures define him or us, we just hope they make us stronger as couple. I believe he is truly someone to look up to.

At some point I must of thought to myself “I have to marry this man” because that is exactly what I did! When all else fails marry your best friend!

The Bike Man is not always perfect, as a matter a fact he loves to push my buttons. He has them down pact, and loves to initiate war by messing with me. The Bike Man and I do everything together just like to peas in a pod, and just like the Bible states we are now one. We really love our life despite when times are tough. He really is the man of my dreams, the man that I prayed for in Bible Study when I was 14, the man I want to grow old (not bald) with and the man who will father my child (Ridley-the dog).

Chelsea and Justin

The Bike man works with his Dad as a land surveyor (did you know George Washington was a land surveyor?) and part time at Bikes Unlimited as a bike mechanic (he went to school for this). He spends most of his week training and eating for races on the weekend, and of course loving me (ha).

When we get closer to the big 1 year anniversary I will post more pictures and DIY projects from the big day!

Beautiful Pictures of the Day July 24, 2009

I believe all Shabby Chic lovers will stop and sigh when they lay eyes on this picture from younghouselove.com. I have been thinking all day how to bring up the option of a pink dining room to the Bike Man.  I never had put much thought into cracking a can of pink paint, except for a babies nursery. This subtle color brightens the room and only adds a slight feminine touch (slight being the key word).

Since I am the next Julia Child, the kitchen is my domain (insert laugh here), why not add a few pink touches to off set the stark white cabinets and stainless steel appliances?

My sighs have yet to stop.

Even if pink is not your color, you can’t deny the loveliness of these pictures. Thanks young house love for sharing your grand house crash!
